| Description |
Engraving in the Eleanor Norcross Collection found in a large folio with several other prints. The original engraving has been pasted onto a different sheet of paper (feels like construction paper). On the back of the paper is the hand written title "Our Father Who Art in Heaven" (written twice, toward the bottom).
Depicts a young girl looking upward and grasping a younger, kneeling, child's hands in a sign of prayer. It appears that she is teaching the younger child the prayer that is mentioned in the title. She is fashionably dressed, with curls in her hair, while the younger child is in white dress or pajamas and looks up at the seated girl. The room is at least middle class with a patterned carpet, voluminous patterned curtains/drapery, a fine chair that the girl sits on, and a bureau with mirror. A purfume bottle sits upon the bureau, with a basket of flowers, and a glass and pitcher stand on a table behind the children. The mirror suggests space beyond what the viewer can see. |
