Description
Personel powder horn with a wooden plug. This has a paper note inscribed in ink; Fitchburg January 5th 1808 Abraham Bennett This Horn Made by his own hand AB. There is a round piece of glass over the note, which is held in place by a wood ring. The ring is held to the base of the horn by six iron brads. There is a small lip on the base of the horn, which originally consisted of two lobes, one of which is now missing. This was to secure the end of the carrying strap. The throat end of the horn has a large ring of its original material remaining to serve the same purpose at this end. The horn was designed to be worn on the left hand side of the body so that the curve of the horn would lay close to ones side. The stopper is missing.
