| Abstract |
1. The first was an advertisement of J.G. Moulton, Photographic Artist. He had opened a studio at the Old Stand, 159 Main St., Fitchburg. 2. The second paper was an article explaining the J.C. Moulton, business, which appeared in "The Industries of Fitchburg, dated June 1882, written by C.H. Passons. 3. The third article was a bill, addressed to the Thirty-Third Reg, dated Sept. 2, 1889. It was 200 photos of Gen. Kimball. 4. The fourth article was written in the Fitchburg Daily Sentinel, dated June 18, 1892. It was a biography of the life of J.C. Moulton. The article explained that he was the oldest photographer in Fitchburg, both in years and experience. His studio was located at 368 Main St. and he had made over 30,000 negatives which included nearly all of the citizens for the past 40 years. Mr. Moulton was a deacon at the Rollstone Church. For 15 consecutive years, he was superintendent of its Sunday School and was the first president of the Y.M.C.A. He had served as three terms in the Common Council from Ward Four, was a Chapter Mason, and a member of the Board of Trade and Merchants' Association. 5. The envelope shows a picture of his office on Main St. 6. The letter, dated June 5, 1986, was addressed to Mr. Samuel Pennington of Maine Antique Digest, from the Fitchburg Historical Society in which she stated that you could tell a Joseph C. Moulton, picture by its clarity, its sharpness and its composition. She explained that Mr. Moulton came to Fitchburg with his daguerrotype camera in 1847 and took pictures until 1910, when his son took over the studio. 7. A letter, dated Aug. 21, 1992 was written to the Fitchburg Historical Society from Ruth Rhonemus of Ayer, Mass. She was looking for pictures of Shirley, Mass. or the Shaker Community done by J.C. Moulton around 1871. 8. A letter to Ms. Ruth Rhonemus from the Fitchburg Historical Society, dated Aug. 25, 1992, advised Ms. Rhonemus that she was unable to locate any pictures of Shirley, Mass. or the Shaker Community. She suggested that she check with the Shirley Historical Society. |
