| Abstract |
1. The first newspaper article, appeared in the Fitchburg Sentinel on Sept. 25, 1987. The article described Mr. Moynihan as a person who would be remembered for his kindness to everyone. It also said that he was called "Mr. Democrat" because he loved the Democratic Party. During his career he once owned the Independent Cab Co. on Main St., and served as registrar of deeds for Northern Worcester County for 46 years. 2. The second article was titled: "Bunny will be missed." and described how Fitchburg had lost of its leading citizens. Mayor Bernard F. Chartrand made the following comment in this article: "Many people have "Mr. Democrat" to thank for a Thanksgiving basket, a paid oil bill, spending money, and even bail money---all of which came out of his pocket. Sometimes he would get the money back and sometimes he didn't." The article goes on to say that his proudest accomplishment was having the late John F. Kennedy visit his home. 3, The third article was titled: "Friends honor Mr. Democrat". It stated that friends gathered at the Northern Worcester County Registry of Deeds building to dedicate a monument and a tree to the late Bernard "Bunny" Moynihan. This article described the event and listed all the speakers for the occasion. 4. The fourth article was titled: "Bernard Moynihan honored at Dedication Ceremony". City officials and citizen came to the dedication of the monument in honor of the long service of Bernard Moynihan. The stone with a dedication was unveiled in front of the Registry of Deeds. 5. The fifth article was titled: "Monument Dedicated to Bunny Moynihan." The article describes the ceremony that took place for the dedication. The article further stated that Mr. Moynihan served three terms on the Fitchburg City Council, fourth person to serve in the position of registrar for North Worcester County since the position opened in the l880's. During the time, the region had petitioned the General Court of the state to form a new county to be named Lincoln County. In order to satisfy this desire to be separate, the state commissioned that the building be constructed to house the Registry of Deeds and the Superior Court. 6. The biography of Mr. Bernard Moynihan listed his personal history, his political history and his social, business and fraternal interests. |
