Description Panoramic aquatint of Fitchburg (as viewed from across the Nashua river looking into downtown) depicting daily life in the late 19th century. The Fitchburg Railroad is prominent and representative of the industrial gains of the city and its functioning at the time, as are the mills along the Nashua that spurred Fitchburg's growth. This growing industry is contrasted with the abundance of yet undeveloped landscape that surrounds the central portion of town in all directions and recalls the preceding order of townlife.
