| Portrait of Samuel Gibson Jr. (1775-1856) painted circa 1800 donated by Betsey Derby, Esther Moore, and E H Taggart October 28, 1917. The Gibson men (Jacob and Rueben) were among the founding members of Fitchburg in the 1760s who later fought for independence in the Revolution and occupied the oldest standing house in Fitchburg built in 1744 on Pearl Hill. This portrait relates the continued importance of the Gibson family in the development of Fitchburg and their status in society even in the later generations, that of Samuel Jr. |
