Description
|
| This is a rendering done by architect H M Francis of the design of Willis Bennett's house on Summer Street in Fitchburg. The remnants of preliminary sketches for the piece are also visible. Mr Bennett was plant superintendent of the Dickinson shoe factory and the location of his home made the trip to work convenient on the Summer Street trolley line, which ran to North Street where the shoe company was located. Although Bennett's home is not particularly remarkable in its grandeur, it's design by Francis and location on Summer Street among some of Fitchburg's most beautiful homes indicates the success that Mr. Bennett was able to achieve. In addition, the clean lines, traditional brick facade, and collonnaded wrap around porch add a dignity and timeless quality to the design. |
