| This is a poster advertising the International Art Publishing Co. having 'Valentine's for sale here.' The tree trunk garners the logo of the company under the work Valentines. The entire scene is idealized in the depiction of a young couple in love surrounded by the vivid blues and greens of nature. The two celebrate their love by carving their initials (E.S. and M.S.) into the bark of the tree. The depiction harks back to the pre-civil war period in the dress of the pair, which is in stark contrast to the technology of the printing company. |
