Object Name Bench
Description A bench made of golden oak which was hand carved by German immigrants for P.E. Werner's mansion. The mansion was located on West Main Street in Akron, Ohio until it was razed in the 1950s. Robert L. Hunker painted the wood when it was installed in the G.A.R. Hall. It is decorated with a lace runner and a large blue cushion. See Provenance.

Provenance Robert L. Hunker and his father John D. Hunker removed the woodwork from the Werner mansion before its demolition in the 1950s. The woodwork was given to Robert L. Hunker and John D. Hunker by the grandson P.E. Werner, Jr. who was a trust officer for First National Bank, now First Merit.
