Summary Unabridged republication of the original (1905) edition. The second of four volumes, this one covering the period 1660-1720. During this period, walnut began to replace oak as a primary material, its strength allowing for greater lightness of design. The characteristic feature of this new style was the twisted and knobbed turnings of legs and runners. Includes photographs of tables, chairs, birdcages, chests of drawers, china cabinets, clocks, stools, and settees. Also includes, close-up photographs of details, 15 plates, 223 photographic illustrations, and index.
