| Notes |
Handwritten note by Robert L. Hunker on page 7: "I entertained Jim with his sister and brother-in-law on Yellow Creek Rd. He came to the opening of "Themely's Restaurant." He brought a special dress for his sister to wear that night. It was a huge success. Unfortunately Tom's health deteriorated and he sold the restaurant. It was a very challenging contract as the architect, poor guy, was not good. He was an engineer and inexpensive so I had to intervene and struggle to change the plans and find a theme for this big hollow space-I did so with 4' x 6' Chinese (antique) embroideries I found in the dirty basement of Gramercy Galleries, N.Y.C. 13th St. I had 6 x 8 Venetian chandeliers made in Venice by Barovier & Toso. They were spectacular, now gone. I wonder where? I kept 1 of the finest embroideries for my collection. It is over 400 yrs. old. Now in my Peninsula residence. RLH 6/14/07" Continued on page 5: "I attended this opening of this exhibit at the Chisholm Halle Wing w/ Cindi Halle and her parents. Of course, it was brilliant, lavish, expensive, and perfect as both Cindi and James demand. It was good to see James again. RLH See/ Architectural Archives # and page 36 of this book." From page 36 (picture of dress at exhibit that was gift of Mrs. Thomas Themely): "I knew Mrs. Themely well and her husband for whom I designed their residence and "Themely's Restaurant" which was published in Interior Design. I dined with them at their home, my home, & at the restaurant. RLH 6/14/07" |
