Interview 9/21/04

My notes written up Sunday 19th and reviewed Monday.

I am usually the one asking you the questions for advice on public grants and help etc. Now I am at your mercy.

Please take it easy, don't get even, I wish to come out today looking good?

Thanks for being here.

Why Me?
When G. G. called I thought she was asking advice on someone to review. I was stunned when she said "you." I am so pleased and honored to be here today as part of this very informative series. Thank you Graham and all.

I did not refer to these.
First I have to clarify. I am not a reg. architect as billed. I am an Architect of Interior Design. All the education but degree is BS in economics. Started extra studies to complete the tests for registration but business pressures conflicted and I left the licenses to my two associates in particular Ruth Warmington who joined me in the first years of Hunker Associates which I founded Oct. 1952, 54 years ago in Akron.

1st year twice the work anticipated. 4 employees and we grew through my________ to include all in house.

I have to give much credit to my parents to prepare me. We lived nicely w/attractive house, furnishings, gardens, always flowers. Most important, we traveled. by age 15 every state, Canada, Mexico, camping in Yellowstone, watching the carving of Mt. Rushmore, Mt. Vernon museums, Monticello, both seas.

My artistic talents come from Dad. He could and did everything, planting, gathering seeds, grafting trees, building, matching colors, making new look old, (some water soap suds, drop of oil, soot and plain dirt) Whatever weathered the old he put on the new. I still do it. Remember colors and match them from my head.

Invision, build and rebuild in my mind.

Dad/ most father's engineer/doctor/lawyer - not Dad Do what you enjoy and do it well - not for the money but what you love and you should have fulfillment and never realize that you have been working.

Plan - don't just start with color and fabric

Look at all - Draw a plan - study it for utilities -Flow

Paints and decorations are not the solution- Start with the architecture
W/plan -budget, great comfort and looks can be inexpensive.
