Reproduction of the first form of a Cambodian book. Constructed from bamboo slats fastened together with cotton string. Each slat is carved with figures depicting the story. Each slat is equivalent to a page with an English translation on the reverse side. (The beetle nut is also used as snuff; it is chewed and swallowed producing a narcotic effect.) Purchased by Robert L. Hunker, in Cambodia, 04/03/2002, for $20.00 (USD). Location: Wood wall of stairway leading to 3rd level loft/bedroom of residence. |
