| Notes |
This pick axe was found by staff member Addam Fazio on 10-12-06 during a dig at the Bronson Church to repair drainage systems. The tool was found approx. 5 feet underground. There is no forge stamp on the item noting an iron works that produced it. From its appearance, it is probable that the item was hand-cast and hand-forged. Given the depth of the find and its apparent construction, this piece is probably from the period the church was built and could quite possibly be from the original construction of Bronson Church. More research needed: Construction of the item will need to be determined by an historical metalurgist; the wood can be x-rayed to determine age; however, the existing handle remnants may not be original. |
