Description Cabinet card portrait of Horace Nicholas Carter. Horace Carter served as a colonel in the Civil War from 1961 to 1863. He was wounded and lost his left leg below the knee at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. He returned to Pastville in 1865 and was a civic leader and president of 1st National Bank in Chester County from 1867 to 1880. He married Elizabeth Mary Jones in 1877. They had nine children. He died in 1895 at age 62.
